Reflexology for Acute Injury

I just got back from an incredible trip to NYC – I go back there every few months to offer reflexology & reiki sessions. The trip began with the usual high-speed New York energy but ended in the emergency room! I badly hurt my knee playing capoeira, a Brazilian martial art that I’ve practiced on and off for years. Unfortunately, my practice had been more off recently, and my body wasn't exactly up the task. I took a hard fall, and my knee took the brunt of it. I heard and felt a sensation I've never felt. I knew it wasn't broken, but something was really wrong.

The remarkable thing is that with injury comes incredible insight. And one thing I strongly felt was that tending to the injury right away was the way to go! What I also know is working the reflexology points that correspond to the area of pain is crucial.

Reflexology points can be very sensitive if there is an imbalance in that area. And my knee reflex was off the charts painful. I pressed very hard, knowing it would help lessen the pain and speed up the healing process. Reflexologists should always work within pain thresholds, but it was important in the early stages to feel and interrupt the pain pattern immediately following the accident.

You don't need to get a diagnosis to start the cure. And now, as I look back and chronicle the stages of healing I'm in awe at the recovery process and directly attribute it to the amount of care I put in.

Here’s what I did: I went within. I did abundant self-care. I kept my heart open. And within a week I am walking again! I still can’t bend my knee, but with time that will return.

If you are suffering from pain, be it an acute or sudden injury or chronic dis-ease, working the reflexology points that relate back to those areas can (and in many cases will) lessen the pain, increase circulation, speed up the healing process, and provide the body systems the opportunity to relax and reset.

It's so important that we address the stress in our bodies and encourage our internal and external systems to relax. If you are suffering from an acute or chronic condition and would like to know more about what you can do using reflexology self-care contact me to schedule a one-on-one instruction - let's not waste a moment!
